POSITION SUMMARY: Responsible for achieving bookstore revenue goals and, daily operations including production/retail operations, safety and loss prevention compliance. Responsible for directly responsible for the overall training, professional development, retention, wage and hour compliance, and satisfactorily addressing/documenting employee relation issues of staff. May be required to move locations within a 25-mile radius of San Diego County.

Essential Functions Statements: 

  1. Responsible for daily bookstore operations. Utilize critical thinking and strategic vision to ensure revenue goals are met. Analyzes store performance and collaborates with Regional Manager on sales/production strategies as needed.
  2. Responsible for maintaining and providing excellent customer service including addressing, investigating, documenting, and resolving customer concerns.
  3. Investigates, documents and communicates any concerns or on going issues related to the department and provides feedback and resolutions.
  4. Responsible for maintaining store in a safe, clean and well merchandised manner per company standards, policies and procedures and any applicable laws or regulations.
  5. Motivates, trains, coaches, engages and develops staff in a positive work environment to retain employees, increase productivity and achieve departmental goals. Utilizes performance management tools such as annual evaluations and goal setting conversations to develop staff.
  6. Manages the implementation of organizational initiatives such as 4DX methodology and Kaizen continual improvement.
  7. Makes recommendations for new hires and termination of employment as needed. Participates in interview process as needed/required.
  8. Ensures employment relationship issues are resolved according to organization’s best practices, policies and procedures, organizational culture, core values and employment laws and regulations.
  9. Responsible for ensuring that administrative duties are done thoroughly, accurately and in a timely manner.
  10. Controls overall expenses of the store, and labor to revenue and follows on work results.
  11. Performs work activities of subordinates such as operating POS system, processing donations, stocking shelves, and housekeeping duties as necessary.
  12. Performs other related duties as assigned. May be required to work at alternate store location as needed.




Education /Experience: High School Graduate or General Education Degree (GED) and/or Associate’s degree/two years of college/technical school preferred. A minimum of two years of related experience is required.


Computer Skills: Basic use of computer and computer related equipment/software. MS Office Suite – Word and Excel programs.


Certificates & Licenses: Must have valid California Driver’s License with driving record acceptable to Goodwill’s insurance company’s standards. Must have an insured, reliable vehicle. Equipment: Must be able to operate POS cash register.


Other Requirements: Able to perform simple arithmetic tasks including addition, subtraction, fractions, percentages, calculate figures/amounts for change or discounts, etc. Must be able to read and understand sales reports. Must be able to travel for business when the department or company needs call for it. A flexible schedule is required (including the ability to work evenings and weekends).
